He is probably going to be a big cat based on the size of his paws now. They are very good together and should be adopted together if at all possible. $200 for the pair. They are at PetCo Vernon Hills in the adoption area until December 3.

Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Garfield is a 3 year old buff orange tabby male. He was adopted back in 2014 as a kitten and found several cities away, hungry and matted in a park in October 2017. His original owner said he had given him away and was not interested in taking him back. We have no idea why because Garfield is about as laid back as a cat can get. He is extremely friendly, outgoing, vocal, and great with kids. He loves pets and will seek out attention. He is so happy to have been found and we can't wait to be able to get him the forever home he deserves. He is neutered, up to date on shots, and fiv/felv negative. He will be having a procedure called TCT on ... (Read More)one knee on December 14 and the other knee fixed about a month later. We expect a full recovery with no after effects. If you would like to foster to adopt Garfield during his recovery, we would welcome your help. (Less)

Robin, short-haired brown tabby female, was fixed as part of a large cat colony in July 2017. She was taken into foster care with a family with teens at about 3 months old. Because she was a little older than usual when brought inside, she's taken longer to come around to love humans. Robin is learning to trust people and is especially attuned to her teen age foster mom who understands her need to go slowly. Robin could be a great companion for another cat that would show her around.

Named for the War god of Greek Mythology, Ares is a plucky fellow who gets along great with people, cats, and other dogs. He loves his foster dog sisters and will run up to them and greet them with an affectionate leg rub and some purring. He can often be found scampering about the house in what might be perceived as a mischievous fashion, but in actuality he is patrolling the home and keeping it safe from intruders. He likes to follow around his foster brother Handsome, so he can keep learning about how to be a good guard cat. He would do well in a home with lots of places to explore and he would do great in a home with other cats or ... (Read More)dogs, or both. He was born mid-April to a stray momcat. Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Gatsby (about 1 year old as of June, 2017) is a neutered male black with a grey tail longhaired cat. Gatsby was trap neuter-returned as an older kitten that didn't seem tamable back in summer of 2016 but a few months later a woman found him and took him in to rescue him. He had fleas and his initial rescuer gave an 'all natural' over the counter flea remedy and Gatsby started having a terrible reaction. She reached out to us for help and two of our volunteers worked for hours washing the sticky, oily substance off of him as he was very near death. Thankfully unlike many cats who fall victim unregulated store bought flea remedies Gatsby ... (Read More)managed to pull through, although his first few days indoors weren't exactly positive for him and he had trouble adjusting to life in a foster home that had a dog and two small kids. After a few weeks we moved him into a more quiet foster home and he started to come around. He is now okay with being picked up briefly and loves to be petted by the people he trusts, he just isn't very outgoing in new situations and is very sensitive to loud noises or sudden movements. We couldn't recommend him for a home with an excitable dog or young hyper kids but he does great with other cats and anyone who can be calm and patient with him. (Less)

Alice (about 12 weeks old as of 8/24) is a black female shorthaired kitten. Alice was rescued from the inside of a car engine as a small kitten. This little stowaway had some stowaways of her own though; as one of the few poor kittens we've ever found covered with lice her foster mom just couldn't resist naming her Alice because she was All-Lice! Thankfully after some parasite treatment Alice is a healthy, happy girl who equally loves playing with other kittens and getting attention from people. She tolerates the small kids in her foster home well, is getting used to having a dog around, and loves other cats so much she figured out how to ...     Snarf (about 3 and a half months old as of 8/16) is a female dark tortieshell shorthaired kitten. Snarf was found with her mom and siblings living under a carport in Waukegan. The kittens were a little on the older side and very wild like their mama, and poor little Snarf took the longest to come around to loving people so she is the only 'ThunderCat' kitten left up for adoption from her litter. She still startles easily and doesn't appreciate being chased around by the bulldog or preschooler in her foster home, but she does love to play with people now and she usually starts purring as soon as you pick her up.     Smidge was born in April 2017 and taken into foster care with his 3 siblings. He has grown from a shy scaredy cat to a handsome little boy that asks for pets and rolls over for belly rubs. He would be a GREAT little brother to an adult cat that wouldn't mind him rubbing up against them or chasing their tail a bit. He has good manners and backs off when told. Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Krispy (about 2-4 years old as of July, 2017) was found as a friendly stray near the Waukegan Popeye's Chicken restaurant living out of their dumpster before moving on to handouts from a nearby caretaker who quickly got him trapped and neutered. They didn't realize he was friendly until after his surgery, hence his little eartip that would have marked him as fixed if he were to go back outside, but in the recovery room he immediately started charming the surgical staff so he went home straight into foster care. He loves people, he will meow to them and wind around legs to get attention. He loves to be pet and scratched but Krispy is a very ... (Read More)playful boy and he will take too much stimulation as an invitation to wrestle. His foster family are working on teaching him to be more gentle, but he may not be the perfect kitty for a family with very small children who won't know any better than to provoke him or with people with bleeding or immune disorders. He still thinks being held is weird after fending for himself on the streets and simply won't tolerate being cradled like a baby, but he loves to smash against people and cuddle on his own terms. He adores playing with other cats and would do best with a young playful kitty companion who won't mind wrestling with him every day. He has already been returned from one potential home where his intended playmate couldn't handle his type of rough a tumble so another really playful confident kitty or kitten is a must. We're not sure yet how he will handle being around dogs but with a cat-friendly dog that would be okay if Krispy wanted to wrestle with them, too, he could give it a try! At Petco Vernon Hills, where his video is taken, he has adopted a 5 mo old male kitten. The play and sleep together. Smidge thinks Uncle Krispy is the coolest. They would have fun staying together.     Squeaky (8-10 years old as of January, 2017) is a neutered male black short-haired cat. 'Squeaky' got his name from his very distinct and frequent meow, which is not actually high pitched or squeaky but a deep soulful yowl. Squeaky was found as a friendly adult stray back in 2011 when he was thought to already be a few years old and was taken in as an indoor outdoor cat by his caretaker after going through our trap neuter return program. Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Genevieve (about 2 and a half years old as of July, 2016) is a spayed female tortoiseshell shorthaired cat. Genevieve was found outside as a ridiculously friendly and outgoing stray. We can only guess at her age and background, but because she was so petite and still so playful we think she was just under 1 year old when we found her and she's still like a big kitten! We also suspect she was raised from very early on as an only cat because she is so open and loving with all people but so terrible at social interactions with most other cats. Although she has adapted to life in a foster home with lots of other cats she often gets upset just by ... (Read More)the sight of other cats and sometimes throws tantrums around them. When she does try to make friends she just sneaks up on them and tries to play, roughly, like she never learned the right way to go about it from a mother cat and littermates. She even plays a little too rough with people so we wouldn't recommend her for a family with small children, but for the right family that likes to 'razzle' their cat and isn't phased by play bites she'll be tons of fun! If she's not playing she loves to be cradled like a baby and held or carried around for ages- she is a very attention seeking cat and will probably do best as a spoiled only cat or sharing the spotlight with just one or two other young, playful, and hopefully more submissive cats, like her shy foster friend Sunshine. Domestic Cat    Age: Young Kitten

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Fila (about 5 months old as of Feb 2017) is a spayed female black kitten. Fila and her siblings were born into a colony of feral cats in Round Lake Beach and rescued as young kittens. Unfortunately the kittens fell very ill with a mysterious virus we now believe to be panleukopenia, which most cats including those who go through our trap-neuter-return program are vaccinated against but that can be very dangerous for unvaccinated young kittens. Fila made a full recovery, although the supportive care she received to pull her through stressed her out a bit and may have left her more timid than many kittens who were taken in as young as she was. ... (Read More)(Her one flattened ear in photos is how she shows she is feeling nervous, it's a normal ear!) Fila has been raised with other cats, dogs, and kids around and would be good for most homes as long as children are respectful that she is a little more shy. Sonoma is her sister. (Less)

Animal ID: 16-10-27-00295Hook (male)

Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, FIV

Hook (about 3 years old as of November, 2016) is a neutered male grey shorthaired cat. Hook started showing up at a feral colony in Waukegan as a scared stray cat back in March of 2016. One day in May he came by to eat with a broken leg bent like a 'Hook' but avoided all efforts to trap him for 5 months. Finally just before the weather turned he was caught and turned out to be very sweet. Unfortunately his bent leg was entirely healed in place and the vet couldn't do anything to straighten it without causing him more pain, so now he just has one weird leg and walks a little funny with a short stride. He is happy to be an indoor cat ... (Read More)again and likes to sit up and beg for treats and be cuddled and petted. He gets along well with cats and kids, but we haven't seen how he handles living with dogs yet so we would recommend only a very calm, respectful dog for him. Hook has tested positive for antibodies to FIV, a slow acting virus that can cause mild to moderate immune impairment. It is contagious to other cats but only through deep bite wounds, something not likely to happen given a slow introduction, so we will be happy to adopt him to an FIV negative cat family as long as they will be cautious and patient integrating him to their home. Most cats with FIV live to be seniors and pass away from common old age conditions, so it doesn't mean he won't have a long, happy life! (Less)

Sweet William (about 6 1/2 months old as of 10/19/2016) is a neutered, male, black, short-haired kitten. William was born to a feral mother cat who had literally been dumping her kittens at one of our caretakers' house for years. They finally caught her but she was about to give birth, so these lucky kittens have been inside their whole lives.     Daisy (about 6 1/2 months old as of 10/19/2016) is a female black and white shorthaired kitten. Daisy was born to a feral mother cat who had literally been dumping her kittens at one of our caretakers' house for years. They finally caught her but she was about to give birth, so these lucky kittens have been inside their whole lives. Daisy is a very vocal kitty who likes to meow about things as she goes through her day and will sometimes call out to figure out where people are if she wanders off alone expecting someone to call back to her or come find her. That sounds awfully needy but she is actually the most independent kitty from her ... (Read More)litter. She is sweet and affectionate but doesn't want to cuddle until she is done playing and doesn't feel the need to be on top of someone smothering them every time she gets a few pets. That said, when she is in full cuddle mode she loves serious, firm pets so strong they pull the skin around her eyes back and exaggerate her already naturally silly long skinny face. She is very energetic and alert which can make her seem jumpy or skittish, but it's really just her goofy, playful nature showing. She does well with kids, gets along great with the other cats and kittens in her foster home, and although she hasn't had much dog experience we think she is relaxed enough to live happily with a cat-friendly dog.     Primrose (born 3/30/17) is a spayed, female, black tuxedo, short-haired kitten. Primrose was born to a feral mother cat who had literally been dumping her kittens at one of our caretakers' house for years. They finally caught her but she was about to give birth, so these lucky kittens have been inside their whole lives. Prim looks the most like her mother and takes after her the most too. She was the last kitten to decide people were good despite what her wild mama told her. She has made a big turn around and is now a super well-adjusted, loving little girl. She follows her foster mom around like a lovesick puppy. She likes to quietly bug her ... (Read More)foster family for attention, sitting and staring at them expectantly until they give in and pet her! Primrose purrs over just about anything in the comfort of her foster home and although she doesn't like being held or snuggled for long periods of time, as much as her siblings do, she is super affectionate and loves kisses on her little muzzle. She chirps with delight when she is really excited about something and loves to play. She throws down with her big brothers, William and Johnny, with no reservations. Prim has done well at adoption events with kids but we think in her forever home she'd do better with older children. She gets along great with other cats but hasn't had dog experience, so she'd probably do better with a calm, quiet, older dog that is very respectful of kitties. She has a lot of energy and would do best with a playmate to wear her out like one of her siblings Daisy, William and Johnny. (Less)

Siamese Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Dottie (about 2 yrs old as of 07/2016) is a spayed, female, calico point, short-haired, Siamese mix cat. Dottie was rescued as part of our Beach Park trailer park trapping and was one of 16 or more cats one resident had tried to take into her small trailer. Due to the cramped and unstable conditions, we don't know that she ever got to live as a normal pet cat. That is probably why she is a little shy at first. She seems calm and confident even as she squirms to run and hide while we're carrying her around at Petco, and at home she is happy to be out and about. She doesn't like to be carried around but likes when you pet her, especially ... (Read More)around her ears. She's an especially good hunter of toys. She loves treats and will come running for them. Dottie is not picky about food and eats wet and dry. She has a very sweet nature and could probably be a lap cat given the chance. Obviously she has lived with other cats just fine. She is tolerant of the small dog living in her foster home. We think she'd do well with older children who could be quiet and gentle around her but she'd probably be too easily startled by hyper toddlers or preschoolers. (Less)

Ellwood (about 1 yr old as of 07/2016) is a neutered, male, grey tuxedo, short-haired cat. Ellwood was caught during a mass trapping of more than 30 cats where 2/3 of the colony were kittens 4 months and younger. He was one of the oldest kittens caught and understandably he is still a little shy, especially with new people or places. Ellwood has become very sweet, he'll meow for attention, loves being pet, and will even get his purr going and roll over for belly rubs if you warm him up. He is still easily startled and will sometimes get spooked and run and hide for a minute to collect himself. He's getting braver every day though, and has ... He might never be a super outgoing cat with new people and places, but we know for his one special forever family he will be an AMAZING little buddy. Ellwood has been fostered with other cats, dogs of all sizes, and kids 2-11 years old, so he'd be great for just about any home that will continue to work with him to build his confidence. We think he'd do best with at least one other young playful animal to keep him company. He'll be happier with someone around 24/7 and he seems to have more confidence with a role model around to show him how to be brave. (Less)

Bandit was caught during a mass trapping of more than 30 cats where 2/3 of the colony were kittens 4 months and under. Bandit was one of the 4 month old kittens and was sent on his own to a foster home to be a companion to a lone 4 month old kitten from a different colony. It took him a while to really come out of his shell having had such a late start living with people, but today Bandit is one happy cat.     Terrence (2 yrs old as of 03/2016) is a neutered, male, buff tabby, short-haired cat. Terrence and his sister were born in a neighborhood of retirees that took pity on them and fed them enough to thrive, giving them just enough attention to keep them interested in people but never teaching them how to be a 'pet' cats used to being picked up or living underfoot in a home. He'll play with toys for human interaction but hates being reached for and doesn't seem thrilled about being held if you do manage to catch him. He gets along great with the other cats and dogs in his foster home. He quickly becomes a big brother to any new fosters that come into the foster home, so he could be a great companion for existing pets of a family willing to give him as long as he needs to come around to really trusting them. Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Cats, Not Good w/ Dogs, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Genevieve (about 2 1/2 yrs old as of 07/2016) is a spayed, female, tortoiseshell, short-haired cat. Genevieve was found outside as a ridiculously friendly and outgoing stray. We can only guess at her age and background, but because she was so petite and still so playful we think she was just under 1 year old when we found her and she's still acts like a big kitten! We also suspect she was raised from very early on as an only cat because she is so open and loving with all people but so terrible at social interactions with other cats. She often gets upset just by the sight of other cats and sometimes throws tantrums around them. When she does ... (Read More)try to make friends she sneaks up on them and tries to play rough, like she never learned the right way to go about it from a mother cat and litter-mates. She even plays a little too rough with people so we wouldn't recommend her for a family with small children, but for the right family that likes to 'razzle' their cat and isn't phased by play bites she'll be tons of fun! If she's not playing, she loves to be cradled like a baby and held or carried around for ages. She is a very attention seeking cat and will probably do best as a spoiled only cat or sharing the spotlight with just one or two other young, playful, and hopefully more submissive cats, like her shy foster friend Sunshine.     Sunshine (5 yrs old as of 04/2016) is a spayed, female, orange and white, long-haired cat. Sunshine showed up in one of our feral colonies and had kittens before she could be trapped and fixed. When we caught her and her newborn kittens, we were amazed at how easy going she was with us as we checked out her kittens, and baffled when she let one of our volunteers shave off the matted parts of her thick fluffy coat, a grueling process that took 40 minutes and that most friendly cats wouldn't stay calm through. We now know that her subdued behavior was less because she was the best socialized cat in the world, and more because she is sweet and ... (Read More)incredibly submissive and puts up no resistance when she feels cornered. She has enjoyed being pet and brushed before but generally prefers to keep a slight distance and be admired from afar. Being such a delicate soul that takes a long time to trust and only comes out when it's quiet and peaceful, we think she would do best with a small family without noisy kids running around to overwhelm her. With other cats she generally keeps to herself and is non-confrontational but she has been known to hold her own, wrestling with her crazy little foster sister Genevieve, whom she loves dearly. Sunshine could be a good little sister to an older kitty that wants to be left alone or happily deal with a feisty kitten or anywhere in between. (Less)
